A long Wednesday!

Verizon Wireless hasn’t let us down yet! Steve just called on his cell phone from Silver Lake, Oregon. He rode 91 miles today, which took him 6 hours 45 minutes of riding time. The first 8 miles were a steady climb of another 800 feet in elevation to the summit of the Cascade Mountain Range. He was able to cruise 15 miles downhill after his uphill efforts…weee! Most of the remaining miles were long, straight, and flat stretches. After coming out of the Cascades, he’s now into basically very flat, high-desert terrain with sage brush, etc. Road conditions have been good and traffic’s been very low. (Unlike what we’re experiencing in our own community lately).

Last night it rained through the night so he got a late start this morning. He awoke to temps in the 40s so he dressed warmly and in his raingear. The temps didn’t go above the low 60s today so he was grateful for his arm and legwarmers. A very large breakfast at the lodge gave him a good kick-start this morning. Tonight he’s staying in a little motel in order to have a roof over his head, a warm shower, and a bed. And there’s a restaurant down the road so he won’t need to cook a meal tonight.
—Stay tuned for more updates down the road! ~~Diane
